Kunst

Zijn grootouders kwamen uit South Carolina. Zijn schilderijen beelden, de visites die hij als kind aan zijn grootouders in het verre Zuiden aflegde, uit en weerspiegelt een bewustzijn van volkskunst. Zijn moeder en vader, een jazz muzikant, beïnvloeden zijn kunst, door hem mee te nemen naar musea, jazzclubs zijn hele kindertijd door.

Leon bezoekt tegenwoordig de "Pure Vision Arts" Studio voor mensen met een beperking, in New York City.

Zijn schilderijen bevinden zich in vele privé collecties.

Leon McCutcheon, born in 1959 in Manhattan, has been drawing since he was a young child. Family memories, music, and fashion have influenced the imagery in his paintings. Leon's grandparents were from South Carolina and his paintings also depict boyhood memories of his visits down South and reflect an awareness of folk art. His mother and his father, a jazz musician, influenced his art by taking him to visit museums and jazz clubs throughout his childhood. Leon currently attends the "Pure Vision Arts" studio for artists with developmental disabilities in New York City. His paintings are included in many private collections.
